Our original logo |
The Methodist Retreat and Spirituality Network was formed in 1979 as the Methodist Retreat Group and the scallop shell was quickly adopted as its logo. The scallop shell is not only a symbol of Methodism taken from the Wesley coat of arms but, more anciently, a symbol of pilrimage in particular of pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James at Santiago de Compostela. The latter is the origin of Sir Walter Raleigh's reference: "Give me my scallop shell of quiet" |
